On the 1st weekend of June a new envelope system was introduced for the Offertory Collection. Details are as follows:

What are the benefits of such a system?

As you may be aware, a tax scheme exists whereby those who contribute €250 or more to a charity in a given tax year can claim an additional sum from the Revenue Commissioners which is sent directly to the charity concerned. St. James’ Church has the status of a charity for tax relief purposes. And so any donation that is given to St. James’ Church is classed as a charitable donation. It is important to say that there is no loss or cost incurred by any taxpayer who is willing to claim from this scheme and that confidentiality will be assured in all aspects of this process.

Examples

A P.A.Y.E worker who contributes exactly €250 in a tax year and who pays tax at the rate of 20% - The Church will receive an additional €62.50 directly from the Revenue Commissioners. For a person paying tax at 42% the Church will receive an additional €141 on a donation of €250 in a tax year. If the amount donated to the Church is in excess of €250 then these figures will increase accordingly.

Why Envelopes?

At present we cannot factor the donations that are given in the Offertory Collection each weekend because they must be recorded in an accountable way. We are now in a position to invite you to avail of an envelope system for our Offertory Collection. It will then be possible to factor that amount into the Tax scheme. With an envelope system in place for our weekly Offertory Collection we can then generate possibly substantial extra revenue for our Church. For example a person who contributes €5 per week in the envelope system, it is possible for the Church to receive up to an extra €3.40 per week on that donation.

What do I do to avail of the envelope system?

Just complete the form below and we will have the box of envelopes ready for you to collect at the beginning of June. Each box will contain 52 envelopes (12 months supply) and each envelope will have the date and a special number that will apply to your donation. Simply place the envelope in the basket at the Offertory Collection on or after the appropriate weekend and we will do the rest. As mentioned Confidentiality will be assured at all times.

What if I don’t wish to be part of the envelope system?

That is no problem. It just means we cannot factor your donation into the scheme to generate extra revenue for the Church. Please feel free to phone Fr.
